For 85% of posts, candidates must have B.Sc Agriculture / B.Sc Hons Agriculture.
For 15% of posts, eligible degrees include B.Tech Food Science and Technology, B.Sc Agriculture Marketing and Cooperation, Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Biotechnology, Biotechnology, Agricultural Engineering, and related courses.

Candidates who have not studied Kannada as a subject or through Kannada medium may have to appear for a compulsory Kannada language test. It will be for 150 marks, and candidates must secure minimum 50 marks to qualify. These marks will not be considered for final merit.
The competitive exam consists of two papers:
